Thespians or ITS (names for Thespis, the first actor) is the Drama Honor Society. It recognizes students committed to theatre, and to help them gain valuable knowledge in the dramatic arts. It is sponsored by the Educational Theatre Association. ITS membership is open to all students who qualify by reaching a certain level in the MSHS Drama Club. Students who wish to join ITS must earn 15 points toward Thespian membership. Each point represents approximately 10 hours of service to the theatre. You may earn your 15 points at any time during the school year. Induction into the Thespian Society is in May, but students who have earned 15 points may participate in Thespian Events such as Drama State Convention.
To see if you qualify for induction into the Thespian Society, write down all theatre related activities you have participated in since graduating from the 8th grade on the Thespian point sheet and turn it in to the Director of Theatre.
Some ITS activities do qualify for Thespian and Letter points. Once you reach 35 points in one school year- you have earned a Drama Letter for your MSHS letter jacket!
Eligible Thespians can attend the State Thespian Convention for one weekend in January with nearly 800 students and teachers from over 50 schools throughout the state. Scholarships, performance opportunities, shows, and workshops are provided. This year’s conference will be held at UNL and Embassy Suites in January. Registration cost is roughly $250, and includes transportation, meals, and conference events. Overnight is required. Registration Packets will be available in September and students can begin fundraising registration cost in August. Drama State is held in Omaha at the Holland Center Downtown.
