On day 1, introduce this visual. Explain that "who" is a person, "what" is a thing or action, "where" is a place and "when" is a time. Print and have this close by when you are practicing wh- questions. Also have it out during data collection for the student to use independently, but if you have to refer them to the correct picture, notate that on the data sheet.
For the next two weeks, practice one question word/day (Day 1- who, Day 2- what, Day 3- where, Day 4- when). Use these questions to practice that question word of the day. Have the visual handy and refer to it frequently. (i.e., Who is riding the bike? Who is our question word. Who is a person so who is riding the bike?)
For the last two weeks, put all of the question words together. Use one of these scenes/day to practice all of the question words combined. You don't need to ask any how or why questions. Have the visual sheet out and refer to it frequently.
Once a week, sit down with the student to collect data. Use the picture cards and data collection form on the left. You can do all 10 questions/word or you can alternate 5 questions for each word 1 week and the other 5 the following week.
