Teachers--Prior to starting this intervention--please watch this video to learn more about "beat speech" or "syllable-timed speech" as it is referred to in the video.
On the first day, watch this video with your student. It introduces the concept of " beat speech" to your student and allows them to practice a couple of times with a model.
For the "beat speech" strategy, you can utilizing one of the pacing boards attached to touch a circle each time you say a syallable. The student can also tap their leg or the table like we did in the video if preferred. Spend a minute 3-4 days a week reviewing the "beat speech" strategy and visual (board or tapping) with the student. If you and your student choose to use the visual, post it in areas that the student frequents (i.e., desk, small group table, etc...). It might be helpful to do your review of the strategy with the student right before a one-on-one or small group session and then you can model and assess any improvements you notice during that group time on the data collection sheet in Step 3.
When you have spent about a month/20 data points intentionally reviewing, modeling and practicing the "beat speech" strategy with the student. Complete the bottom section of this data collection form. and follow up with the SLP.
