Social Media

Social media is about communication, collaboration, community and conversation. With the approval of Policy 7305 and the accompanying Rule 7305.1, the staff of Millard Public Schools is encouraged to explore the educational use of social media. Currently approved social media tools are Facebook, X and Instagram.  Vimeo and YouTube are also allowed within the District and should utilized in accordance with the guidelines outlined for social media.

In order to ensure safety on our roads, all drivers must first learn the rules of the road and practice their driving skills. Before embarking on using social media, one must first understand the best practices and acceptable use policies governing social media. As news headlines and reports constantly remind us, communication through social media is blazing fast, far-reaching and leaves a digital footprint. Educators are held to high standards and by our Code of Ethics we are obligated to always conduct ourselves in a professional, ethical manner. This applies to the classroom, our personal lives and virtually on the world-wide web.

Steps for using social media within an MPS educational setting:

1. Completion of Tech Ethics

New salaried staff will take Tech Ethics online via Safe Schools (only your username is necessary to log in, do not include @mpsomaha.org).

2. Completion of Social Media in MPS, Better & Better Course #35081.

Upon completion, in Better & Better, be sure to click on Viewed materials so be marked as complete.
