Dear Abbott Families:
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We are ready for a G-R-O-O-V-Y year at Grace Abbott Elementary! We are honored that you have chosen Abbott for your child’s education, and we are looking forward to an amazing year filled with growth and wonderful achievements for each Gator. It is always the goal of all Abbott staff to provide your child with the best educational experience possible.
I encourage you to stay up to speed on communication from Abbott and MPS. Please check your email regularly, read our weekly Gator Tales, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter (see links below!) for photos and information. You can also add the ABB Web Calendar to your Google calendar for easy access to events (also linked below!). Classroom teachers will be reaching out with more communication tools to use throughout the year.

As many of you know, the Buckman family grew by one as we welcomed Brinley to the world in May! I will return for the first two weeks in August to start the school year, and then Mr. Alan Sarka, current Administrative Intern at Holling Heights Elementary, will serve as Interim Principal at Abbott through mid-October as I finish my maternity leave. He will also start the school year with us to smoothly transition into the 23-24 school year. Please give him a big Gator welcome when you see him!

SUMMER LETTER
Our summer letter was sent to families in early June with information about Abbott and your child's classroom teacher! You can review that letter below for reminders. You can also log into Synergy to see your child(ren)'s teacher.
The bottom of this letter contains IMPORTANT information about registering your child for school. ALL new and returning Gators MUST register for the 23-24 School Year! If you have not, please do that ASAP by clicking HERE!

Breakfast: Served from 7:55-8:15 am, daily.
Lunch Visitors: We welcome visitors for lunch at Abbott after Labor Day! Thank you for your help with this, as we take the first few weeks to get in a routine with each grade level.

CAR LINE SAFETY
At school, we put many things in place to protect all children. Please respect our students and their safety by following the speed limit, adhering to our parking lot procedures, staying off your phone, and demonstrating patience at all times.
All students need to enter and exit alongside a curb.
Do not exit your vehicle to help your child out of the vehicle, or in the vehicle, unless you're parked in a designated area.
If there is room in front of your vehicle, please pull forward.
Many families also have a plan for a meeting spot after school. We encourage you to practice this before the first day of school! We know you always plan to be there, but sometimes things come up. It's also important to discuss with your child what happens if you're not there - and what they should do!

3-5 Students: Cooperative Loss
Accidents Happen!
3-5 students can pay a cooperative loss payment online through the fees section in Synergy via ParentVue or in the office with cash/check made out to MPS.
RETURN SUMMER SCHOOL iPADS!
If your child(ren) went to summer school, please return their iPad and charger to school as soon as possible. This helps us get them turned over for the 23-24 school year!
