Week 7...WEEK SEVEN! HOLY MOLY WEEK 7!!!

We are headed into our seventh week of remote learning. Has it had its challenges? YES! Have we learned some new things about technology, ourselves and our families? YES! Are we making the most of the crazy uncertain times? YES! I think the most important thing is that so many of our kids have really stepped up and learned some important skills through all of this. I have seen some grow in the areas of self motivation. I have witnessed accountability and ownership of lessons and learning. I have experienced kids advocating for themselves and asking questions through email and hanging out after ZOOM meetings to ask clarifying questions. These are skills they will have the rest of their lives.

As we start to wind down and truly head into summer, there are a few things kids need to finish up and get ready for...

  • persuasive essays are DUE TUESDAY
  • Book Groups will continue to meet 2 days this week and Google Slides should be completed for each day. We will all finish the books by Wednesday of NEXT week and have a book share and celebration. More to come on that...
    • Ghosts Beneath Our Feet meets 9:15 Tuesday and Thursday
    • Attack of the Killer Bunnies meets 9:15 Wednesday and Friday
    • Numbed! meets 10:00 Wednesday and Friday.
  • Friday is FIELD DAY! Mr. Wessel has visited our class meetings twice and shared about this event and it is going to be amazing!!! (well...as amazing as it can be without being together!)
    • I am still waiting for more details, but I am hoping that we can ZOOM several times on Friday to have some class competitions. I will have more info by WEDNESDAY!
    • I would also like to have a ZOOM picnic lunch on Friday. We can take our ipads, blankets and lunches to the yard and eat and talk and "be together".

I will be sending more information about our last week of school, materials return and pick up, and last week "classroom" activities as soon as we have the information.

Thank you from the BOTTOM of my heart for sharing your kids with me.

HAPPY MAY DAY!!!!

Now...I know the tradition is that you leave treats anonymously, but being so close to all your children and seeing them LIVE and in 3-D was the best thing for my soul, my mood and heart! I couldn't not peek around bushes or cars just to get a glimpse of them and chat!!!! Your kids reached out with heartfelt thank you notes and videos that had me in tears!! These are days we will all remember, but it is my hope that they remember some of the JOY we were able to share as well! I know I will. For those of you I missed, I am so sorry, but know that you are always on my mind!!!

I have had some pretty amazing posts of places "I" have been visiting around your homes. We truly have creative kids!!! From rollercoasters to beds, video games and backyard swings...I even got to drive a couple of race cars!!! Keep them coming! Take a look at these pics!

Keep them COMING!!!!

It's like FLAT STANLEY!!

Our Art lesson last week had to do with art history and recreating some famous works of art with things from around the house. MANY students took up the challenge!!! You can see some of their amazing reproductions here.

ART RECREATIONS

These are the books kids selected to read for the last book session. I was really impressed by how they managed the last one. Please help your kids stay on track with their reading and responding. They will typically have 20-ish pages to read over the course of 2 days, then have some graphic organizers to complete. These books will be finished WED, May 13.

REMOTE LEARNING HELPFUL TIPS

How to use remote learning website.MP4

How to use the Remote Learning website

This video shows kids how to access the daily lesson slides. It also walks them through how to OPEN the slide so the links are active and useful.

I have several kids saying they do not have access to videos or the videos are not playing in the slides or they cannot move things in slides. or get links to work. It is IMPORTANT that the kids are in PRESENT mode for slides to work. The pictures below show the taps needed to interact with slides. If you are in GOOGLE you souls hit the PRESENT button at the top.
