Sylvia Dunham-West Student Loan Program

The Sylvia Dunham West Student Loan Program was established in 1974 when the Manitowoc Board of Education received a substantial bequest from the estate of Sylvia Dunham-West. The loan program was presented in memory of Ms. West and her father, Charles C. West, who was one of the founders of the Manitowoc Company.

Who can apply?

The Sylvia Dunham West loan is available for any graduating Lincoln student planning to attend post secondary education.


Loan Amount

The maximum educational loan is $2,500 per school year with the possibility of additional loans upon application to a maximum of five years or $10,000. For students attending a technical college, the maximum loan is $5,000. For grad students (Masters, Doctorate), the maximum educational loan is $5,000 per school year with the possibility of additional loans upon application to a maximum of two years or $10,000.


Loan Details

Loans are due and payable within 10 years of the receipt of the first loan. Students will not be charged interest while actively pursuing full time study at an accredited school of higher education. Interest rates will be adjusted annually during periods when a student is enrolled less than full time or following termination or graduation from school. Interest rates are approximately half a percent less than the federal Stafford loan rate.

This loan is handled through the MPSD Foundation at Lindbergh Drive and is separate from Perkins, Stafford, and Great Lakes loan programs. This loan program does not fit into the criteria for loan consolidation or loan forgiveness at the time of graduation.

loan applications are updated in February of each year.

Completed applications should be turned into the Lincoln High School Counseling office by June 1.
