Available Scholarships

ENDRIES SOLAR & ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are looking to make a change in the world around them. Endries Solar & Electric company’s primary focus is renewable energy, but would like to leave the change that applicants would like to make as limitless.  Endries Solar and Electric was founded in 2018 by Russel Endries-class of 1996 and Sarah (Ward) Endries-class of 2001. Lincoln High School holds a dear place in their hearts, and it is a great privilege for Russel and Sarah to be able to give back to their fellow Ships. 


GERTRUDE  FENNER  SCHOLARSHIPS:  Scholarships will be given in memory of Gertrude Fenner to nine Lincoln High School seniors.  The number of scholarships and monetary amount are determined each year by the Fenner Scholarship Committee.  This year each scholarship is worth $1000.


KASEY HERRMANN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: In honor of Kasey Herrmann, a 2008 Lincoln graduate who passed away from cancer on January 7, 2009, one scholarship ranging between $500 to $1,000 (varies annually based on funds raised) will be awarded to a student who will be enrolled in a four year college or university with plans to enter the medical field.  Students must possess a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or better to be eligible. Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application addressing leadership, positive characteristics of the applicant, a challenge that the student has faced and how the student overcame such adversity. 


KEN KUBSCH SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship of $1,750 will be given to a graduating senior who currently attends Lincoln High School and is planning to pursue a four year college or university and major in either history or science. Applicants must also exemplify the selfless and compassionate nature of whom which this scholarship commemorates, Ken Kubsch.  


MANITOWOC EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR EDUCATION:  One scholarship of $500 will be given to a Lincoln senior planning to attend a four-year college or university, and major in the field of education.  A personal interview may be required. Late applications are not accepted.


MANITOWOC  EDUCATION  ASSOCIATION  (MEMBERS)  SCHOLARSHIP:  One scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded to a high school senior whose parent is a current member of the Manitowoc Education Association.  Applicant must plan to pursue a four-year degree at an accredited college or university.  A personal interview may be required.  Late applications will not be accepted.

                          

ROBERT O. KAUTZER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship of $750 will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a degree in the field of Education, with preference given to Elementary Education. Special consideration will be given to those individuals who have demonstrated a strong work ethic, high moral values, and determination to succeed. Evidence of financial need and ownership for self funding of educational expenses will be considered. Funds for this scholarship are presented in honor of Mr. Robert Kautzer, a long time principal and educator in the Manitowoc Public School district. Mr. Kautzer  came from a humble background and was the first in his family to pursue higher education. He was known for demonstrating fairness and integrity, and his dedication to helping children overcome barriers to succeed in school.


RANDY MERZA SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a Lincoln senior who has played football at the Varsity level and demonstrated leadership qualities similar to that of Randy Merza. Football coaches identify and select the recipient. This scholarship is given by the Merza family in memory of Randy Merza, who was a psychology teacher and coach at Lincoln High School.  The scholarship is given to an athlete who exemplifies Randy’s character and love of sports.  Randy Merza was a person who valued hard-working, dedicated student athletes. 


THE ROBERT ZILL SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is in honor of Robert Zill Sr., a 1973 Lincoln graduate who went on to study business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. One scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to a graduating senior who has been accepted to and will enroll at UW-Madison. Not only will academic qualifications be considered, but also the character and personality of the applicant. No specific major is required for this scholarship. 


THE RUBICK RUN SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a student who possesses a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, and participates in at least one extra curricular activity. Students who participate in more than one activity, and in varied types of activities, will carry more significance. Student must demonstrate community involvement beyond the mandated 20 hours of community service, and provide one letter of recommendation from a coach, club, or extra curricular advisor. Funds for this scholarship are provided in memory of legendary Lincoln football coach Ron Rubick.


THE SHIPS SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF JOHN DIXON: One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating Lincoln senior student who meets the following criteria: be accepted to and plan to attend a four year college or university next fall,  be a participant in Lincoln athletics, plan to pursue a degree in Pre-medicine, Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or Education, and possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater. Applicants must complete an additional essay question on John's famous quote, It is not the significance of what is lost, but of what remains.” Applicants must explain what John’s quote means to them personally, and how they will apply it to their present, and future. Funds for this scholarship were established by Mary Beth Dixon and John's children, Molly, Tanner, Drew, and Mallory Dixon in memory of John. John made multiple contributions to both Lincoln High School and the Varsity Football program. He taught physical education, and coached both football and track. He impacted the lives of many students and players, and taught valuable life lessons that will extend beyond the classroom, gymnasium, and football field.


THE DUANE SIMMONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating senior from Lincoln High School who is pursuing a degree in Education at any university or college. Special consideration to individuals who have demonstrated both a strong work ethic and a mindset to make the world better by living with kindness. Duane was a high school counselor at Lincoln from 2000-2014, and a principal at Jackson Elementary from 2018-2022. He believed strongly in the public school system, in teachers and that all children could learn and grow. He lived his life spreading love, joy and kindness to all he encountered. 


THE TRACY SLADKY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Two scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to any students entering any skilled trade program. This Scholarship is offered in memory of Tracy Sladky who graduated from Lincoln High School in 1985. Tracy owned and operated Manitowoc Garage Door Service for 25 years.  He believed in giving back to our community and supported and encouraged young people to pursue the skilled trades.


VERN W. SOELDNER ALL STATE ALL AMERICAN FOOTBALL AND WRESTLING AWARD: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to an LHS Athlete with a cum GPA of 2.5 or higher with special consideration given to football and wrestling student athletes who competed with 3 years of participation or more. Secondary consideration will be given to 3 year athletes in track, tennis, swimming, etc. Vern graduated from Lincoln in 1968. He was a senior class Vice President, a captain, a 1st team all conference football junior and senior years, and conference champion wrestler junior and senior years. He attended UW-Oshkosh earning All American honors, placing fourth in the Nation in 1970 for wrestling.
