Evidence of best activity to promote school spirit or pride
A yearly tradition here at Red Mountain is decorating the hall walls. This is used to promote our homecoming dance and school spirit. This year, our hall wall theme was "Game On", which is significant because we are able to start back up what we lost in the previous years. The students and the staff all appreciate the work we put into them weeks in advance. As a council, we spent an entire Saturday putting the walls up for the students to come see on Monday.
A tradition we have every year is 80's day. We do this as a spirit day to educate and remind our students that Red Mountain opened in 1988. Not only do we dress up, we celebrated this year by having lunch assemblies! Spirit line, band, dance force and our football team came together during both lunches, to entertain our student body.
Evidence of best activity that involves parents, feeder schools, community, etc.
Every year, Red Mountain hosts a homecoming parade from Salk Elementary School through the back lot of Red Mountain. Many different clubs and sports gather together and make a float to throw candy and other goodies to the children and parents in the community.
In line with Halloween, Red Mountain puts on a yearly Trunk or Treat for the children in the community to get them in the Halloween spirit.
At Red Mountain, we have monthly meetings with parents, teachers, and administrators to address any concerns that students or parents may have. Our principal listens to our concerns and brings our concerns to his meetings.
Evidence of best assembly or presentation activity
Our Homecoming assembly was meticulously organized and planned far in advance. We rehearsed each part multiple times in class, as well as the night and morning before. There were performances from spiritline, football, dance, theater, a special appearance from a talented student-guitarist, and of course our MC's. We were responsible in coordinating with all the sports/clubs involved in the assembly. Because of COVID restrictions, we could only allow 1000 people in the gym at a time, so we had to run FOUR! All four of our assemblies ran smoothly and the student body enjoyed watching our work and were amazed by the set up, including the sparklers during the finale. This assembly played its part in hyping up the dance and all other parts of Red Mountain Homecoming.
On our social media, we had posted a schedule of the spirit week. This was a way to promote Homecoming and encourage students to dress up for the week, allowing us to connect easily with the student body and help clear up any questions they had.
Here is an example of one of the spirit days (Go Team Tuesday) in preparation for the Homecoming dance. Our council promotes school spirit by going all out for these themes and getting our friends to participate through the advertisement.
