Evidence of Leadership Lessons/Activities to Emphasize various leadership development categories
Within our council, we created an online private group chat that we use to communicate with our students and advisors. Through this, we ensure that everyone is aware of upcoming events and clarify any misunderstandings. This gives the two periods of student council the opportunity to unite and stand as one.
Our MC's write a script to guarantee they feel prepared before going in front of the student body for assemblies and school-wide gatherings. It is their responsibility to write it in order to establish crowd involvement.
Aside from our officer class during 4th hour, we have our 3rd hour Red Roar class. They are our hype men and help spread information to the student body. With their outrageous amount of help, we are able to achieve and conquer our top goals and priorities for our school.
Evidence of lessons/activities to emphasize leadership to groups within your school
Our AVID club led a "Red Ribbon Week" in October. This event helped inform all Red Mountain students about the dangers of drugs. As a council, we helped support this event through advertising a spirit week, and participating in the week ourselves.
In this photo, our 3rd hour Student Council class is wearing red to kick off the spirit week and get students excited to support the cause.
At Red Mountain, we have designated students to lead the student section for different sporting and club events. They make sure our students are supportive of the team/group and respectful to everyone present. Our student section leaders work to make our students excited for the event and encourage their peers to attend.
Rockstar Training is an annual event we put on for our sport and club leaders. Each organization sends 2-4 student leaders to join our event and learn more about improving school involvement and support, more specifically the leadership qualities that we influence to use in their day to day activities. We also teach students how to fill out Purchase Order sheets, fundraising request, and club minutes, then end the day with a fun leadership activity.
Evidence of lessons/activities to emphasize diversity
As a council, we attended the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) training meeting along with staff from our school during Pride Week. We learned ways to support our GSA students and increased awareness of outside organizations, like The Trevor Project, to support our GSA students. We find it crucial that we play our part in ensuring these students feel the love and support from all of Red Mountain.
A yearly tradition for our Council, is attending our OktoberFest put on by our German Club the week of Halloween. As a council, we go to support, and learn about German traditions and eat yummy German food. In this photo, we are posing with our two cute German teachers dressed up in Lederhosen.
