Teachers do not have to schedule sending individual or small groups of students during flex time.
NOTE: any blocks of time where classes or small groups are not scheduled are reserved for administrative work. (collaborative planning, budgeting, ordering materials, cataloging items, meeting with vendors, weeding, shelving, filling requests, arranging special reading promotion activities, maintaining a webpage, etc.
Procedures for Scheduling Use of the Library
Scheduling: It is the teacher's responsibility to schedule research time or projects for students to visit the library. The teacher may schedule it on the calendar above, send the librarian an email, or talk to the librarian in person. If the calendar above is use, the teacher must contact the librarian about what time and what type of project or research is needed.
Some of the Services Available to Teachers:
Co-teach with teachers on a unit or lesson. (Teachers must stay with them the entire time during the co-teaching process.)
Work with teachers in scheduling small groups, and classes in the library as well as meetings or special programs.
Keep teachers informed of media services and materials through periodic newsletters.
Help individual teachers by providing all types of materials for their use in their various units of study.
Provide individual teachers with professional resources and books for their classes.
Prepare bibliographies or pull books on various subjects when needed.
Collaborate with individual teachers/grade level teachers with meaningful and effective research work for their students.
Promote school-wide reading.
Inform teachers of copyright policies and assist with library and technology.
Engage in professional development and share information with teachers.
