Academic Eligibility
MVAL Academic Eligibility Standards
If a student at the end of a regular grading period receives an F and/or a GPA of 1.5 or above but lower than 2.0, he/she will be placed on probation.
If a student receives two F’s or falls below a GPA of 1.5, he/she becomes ineligible and cannot continue participation for the next grading period.
Any school or district may be more stringent in establishing its baseline.
Any student that is placed on probation may continue to participate during the probationary grading period.
Any student on probation or ineligible must at the end of the probationary or ineligible grading period raise his/her GPA to a 2.0 or better and must not receive any F’s in order to be eligible for the next grading period.
**NOTE: A grading period in the MVAL is defined as a quarter.
Important Notes
The athletic department kindly asks for an $80 donation for each sport that a student participates in. This helps defray the expenses that go unseen like officials fees, league, section, and state membership dues, and other things that we don't ask each individual program to pay for (i.e. sanitizing and cleaning products, supplies for the trainer, etc). These donations are tax-deductible but non-refundable.
You can make online donations at the MSJHS website. You will need to log in, select Donations, then select Athletic Program Donation.
If you choose to write a check, you can make them out to "Mission San Jose High School Athletics". Please make sure your student's name is in the memo line along with the sport they try out for
Students will only be allowed to try out for ONE sport per season, so please do not register for more than one as none of the registrations will be approved.
Tryout check-in times for each season will be developed with the coaches and posted on the Athletics website by the Friday prior to the first official day. Please make sure you check that spreadsheet. For more sport-specific details, please contact the coach of that sport.
Practice times will be determined by the coach and communicated to team members.
If you are an athlete currently in season, you must finish your current sport's season before trying out for the next season's sport. Contact the coach of the next season you wish to try out for and let them know when your season will end so that a tryout can be arranged on the first day after the completion of your current season.
