This course examines the human past from the earliest human migrations through the first global age, roughly 250,000 BCE to 1800 CE.
Rather than marching through a list of civilizations, the course is organized around the questions historians ask:
Whose account of the past are we hearing?
What sources survive, and what do they leave out?
How do we build an argument from incomplete evidence?
How does the past shape the world students live in now?
