Every argument you have ever heard about whether something is fair — who gets policed and how, whose neighborhood gets funded, whose vote actually counts, who decides what happens on your block — is an argument about government. Most people have that argument without knowing how the machine works.
This class hands you the manual.
By January you will know which level of government — city, county, state, tribal, or federal — has the power to change the thing you want changed, and which office to call about it. You will be able to read a law or a court ruling and say what it actually does. You will be able to sit in a City Council hearing or a school board meeting and follow every move in the room. And you will be able to build an argument that holds up against someone who disagrees with you, using evidence instead of volume.
You are going to be governed either way. The only question is whether you understand how.
