IB SL Music is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the inner workings of music. The goal of the course is to provide students with the requisite music theory and ear training skills along with the historical perspective to concretely discuss music in a thoughtful and meaningful way. The course will trace the development of Western classical music beginning with Medieval chant all the way through to the 21st century. Along the way, students will also be exposed to a variety of World Music cultures ranging from Andean folk music to North Indian Classical music as well as the many styles of American Jazz, Blues, and popular music. Students will compile a portfolio of ensemble recordings from their 11th and 12th grade years or complete the composition assignments as prescribed by IB.
