CORE CLASSES
1 Math Course required per year
Level up from 6th grade math with our exciting math 7 course! This course will give you a deeper understanding of many of the concepts covered in 6th grade, but will also introduce you to new ones. The main takeaways from this course will include solving equations and inequalities, including practical applications, taking proportional reasoning a step further and introducing new concepts of functions, consumer applications that will allow you to find relevance to real life situations, graphs, and various aspects of geometry. Each thing you will learn is a valuable step towards your future mathematics education.

The last stop on your journey before the all important Algebra 1 course, math 8 will give you the opportunity to practice many vital skills. Following math 7, you will continue to expand on solving equations and inequalities, functions, and consumer applications. In addition to these concepts, you will also dive into the wonders of new and more complex geometry including transformations, composite shapes, and more 3-D applications. You will also incorporate more real life applications with probability and Pythagorean Theorem. Finally, improve upon your data analysis skills of real world applications as you work with box plots and scatter plots.

Uncover the magic of our universal language in the most talked about class in the math curriculum. Algebra 1 is a pivotal and most important course in your mathematics career. Whether it is taken at the middle school or high school level, you will need this course to graduate. Algebra 1 allows learners to explore many concepts they have already dabbled in, but on a much deeper level. The concepts covered include solving equations, inequalities, and systems of equations, functions, operations with polynomials, and many real world applications involving statistics. Students will also see a greater number of practical applications when working with each concept, making this course relevant for all who take it.

Become a reading and writing wizard in 7th grade advanced language arts! This course pushes you past the basic language arts skills to become a critical thinker, an active reader, and an effective writer and communicator. Students will be exposed to a variety of texts, genres, and types of writing, as well as giving students the skills to become independent learners through class discussions and projects that go beyond the basics. Be prepared for a course that will help you become a successful reader and writer for the future!

Throughout the semester, students will use skills of historical and geographical analysis to explore the history of the United States from the Reconstruction era to the present.

In Life Science, students examine relationships in the living world and the changes and patterns that occur in ecosystems. Students study cells and the classification of organisms; and how changes are a result of genetic information passed on from parents.

Students will manage the logistics of planning, designing, and providing content for the MPMS Yearbook. Students will explore the fundamentals of business and finances as they manage the world of advertising and marketing for the MPMS Yearbook.
All 7th grade art students will continue the exploration, analysis, and investigation of the creative process. Students apply the elements of art and the principles of art to solve design problems, using traditional and contemporary art media. They develop critical inquiry skills and expand their vocabulary as they explore the meaning of works of art through the evaluation of subject matter, themes, and symbols. Students develop an increased awareness of the nature of art and of their relationship to it as they explore the meaning and value of works of art. 7th grade students gain in depth knowledge of the color wheel and color theory.
Forget the Siesta, It’s Time to Fiesta! Come join the fun and take a virtual study abroad trip to a Spanish-speaking country! You will learn all about Writers and Stories, Art, Music, Traditional Dances and Instruments, Typical Food and Cultural Festivals as you take the driver’s seat and explore your country to share with the class what you’ve discovered.
This class will cover basic SEWING skills. You will practice hand and machine sewing. You will have the opportunity to make several projects to take home!

Photojournalism introduces students to the exciting world of visual storytelling and broadcast media. This class includes a brief overview of law, ethics and the history of photojournalism. Students will learn the basics of photography and storytelling to inform others. To equip them with communication tools that they can use for the rest of their lives.
In the Energy and the Environment Unit (EE), students are challenged to think big and look toward the future as they explore sustainable solutions to our energy needs and investigate the impact of energy on our lives and the world. They design and model alternative energy sources and evaluate options for reducing energy consumption.
