1 Math Course required per year
Start your middle school career off strong in our awesome math 6 course! You will expand on your math skills and learning from elementary school and continue to grow as a mathematician. Watch all of the things you have learned in previous years start to come together in various concepts that will begin to prepare you for Algebra 1 in high school. In this course, you will learn a little bit of everything, including: operations with integers, the coordinate plane, solving equations, proportional reasoning, graphs, and geometry.
Math 6 extended is designed for students who enjoy a challenge and want to deepen their understanding of math concepts. In this course, you’ll explore topics like ratios, fractions, integers, and early algebra at a faster pace and with greater depth. You’ll solve real-world problems, explain your thinking, and build strong reasoning skills. This class encourages curiosity, persistence, and creative problem-solving to prepare you for higher-level math in the future.
Calling all masters of mathematics for our extended math 6 course! This course is an advanced placement class that covers three years of content in one year. Students will learn math 6, math 7, and math 8 concepts before moving to Algebra 1 in 7th grade. The concepts focus heavily on integers and performing operations with integers, solving equations and inequalities, graphing and identifying functions, practical situations involving consumer applications, and geometry. Each of these concepts is integral to be successful in Algebra 1 the following year!
1 Language Arts Course required per year
The objectives of the Language Arts class are to strengthen reading and writing skills learned at the elementary level. Students will improve reading skills by completing reading comprehension exercises and practicing and using a variety of reading strategies. We will also spend a considerable amount of time on writing and focus on the three main types of essay writing: narrative, expository, and persuasive.
Language Arts Advanced is an extended course, which will help students prepare to enter Advanced Placement and Honors classes in high school. Students are held to a higher academic standard in the quality of their work and will have other elements to complete for major assignments throughout the school year.

This course is a bridge between our Newcomer English course for students who are learning English and our general education language arts course. This is a multi-grade course. This course serves to focus on both WIDA concepts in terms of language aquistion of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, as well as incorporation of language arts SOL standards to provide a smoother transition into a language arts classroom.

Throughout the semester, students will use historical and geographical analysis skills to explore the United States history from pre-European exploration of the North American era to the Civil War era. Our eight specific standards can be found below:

In grade 6 science, students explore our world, from the solar system to the relationship of water, energy, air, and ecosystems. Students look into the use of natural resources on Earth, and they consider how their actions and choices affect the future of our planet.
3 Required Classes

This course intergrates evidence-based literacy intervention with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) to support reading development. Students will develop targeted reading skills while building self-awarness, emotional regulation, and social competence for academic and personal success through Second Step (SEL) and College and Career Exploration & Readiness with Major Clarity. This course does not impact sports eligibility or academic recognition.

This course focuses on developing students’ physical fitness, movement skills, and understanding of healthy lifestyles. Students participate in a variety of activities, including team and individual sports, fitness training, and cooperative games. Emphasis is placed on effort, sportsmanship, and personal improvement.

This course focuses on developing students’ knowledge and skills to make healthy and responsible decisions. Topics include nutrition, mental and emotional health, substance abuse prevention, personal wellness, and healthy relationships. Emphasis is placed on building lifelong habits that support overall well-being.
Your Elective Credits MUST total 6 credits.
In this course students will use tools likes pencils, markers, crayons, and paint to bring their ideas to life making art on flat surfaces like paper and canvas.
In this course students will use their knowledge of 2-Dimensional Art. Students will discover how art tells stories and shows us different ways of seeing the world.They will create their own characters and colorful artwork inspired by imagination, nature, and famous artists.
In this class, you’ll become a creative problem-solver by learning how to design and build things that could solve real-world problems. You’ll use computer programs to create 3D models, sketch your ideas, and test how your designs might work. Along the way, you’ll explore how engineers think, work in teams, and improve their ideas through trial and error. If you like being creative, building, or figuring out how things work, this class gives you a chance to bring your ideas to life.
In this quarter course, you will learn how to safely read and follow simple recipes while practicing important kitchen safety skills like proper knife handling and food storage. You'll prepare easy, delicious simple recipes that teach you the fundamentals of cooking and help you build confidence in the kitchen.
Students are introduced to the exciting world of print media. Journalism students will learn the basic skills of relaying information accurately and self-expression through print communication. Through this course, students will learn and practice journalistic skills used in reporting, writing, designing, and producing a publication.
This semester course introduces 6th grade students to the basics of Spanish in a fun and supportive environment. Students learn essential vocabulary and everyday phrases such as greetings, numbers, colors, and family.
Through games, songs, and interactive activities, students begin developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Cultural elements from Spanish-speaking countries are also included to highlight real-world connections.
No prior experience is required. This course builds confidence and provides a strong foundation for future Spanish study.
This semester course challenges you to master more complex cooking techniques and multi-step recipes that require careful planning and timing. You'll develop your culinary skills by preparing sophisticated recipes while learning how to work efficiently in the kitchen and troubleshoot common cooking problems.
The students are aimed to develop:

Healthy vocal technique
Performance
Students will create, investigate, and connect ideas of instrumental music through the reading and performance of band literature.
Band is a performance-based class where students will present concerts throughout the year.
In class: students will learn to perform individually as well as part of a team.
Outside of class: students will present concerts throughout the school year.
