In this project, just like the title says, we did a TED talk. We had the option to pick what topic we wanted our TED talk to be about and I chose Private Prison growth and Corporate Lobbying. This was actually a very interesting topic because I got to learn how private prisons operate and the injustices found in many.
We had a seminar about injustices and the book just mercy. I got a Meets plus on the verbal portion and and a meets for the written portion of the Socratic seminar. A goal for my next Socratic seminar is to try a little harder on the written section and spend more time on the whole project.
In this Socratic Seminar we mainly focused on the ending of the book. I got a Meets for the written part and again got a meets plus for the verbal part of the seminar. My goal from my last Seminar was to try a little harder on the written portion, and I feel like I actually didn't complete this goal. A new goal for my next Socratic Seminar is to really put in more time and effort into the written part.
This is my reflection for my early year i-Ready test. I'm in the 85th percentile. This is pretty good because it means I am at a mid 8th grade to a surpassed level. I am actually very proud of this because this means I am even a little bit above my grade level.
In this project we read the book Just Mercy and then created a readers log which can be found at the top of this page. The book was about injustices, racism, discrimination, and the death row system in Alabama and some surrounding states at the time. I thought this book was pretty interesting because it was based on a true story. The book was very well written and portrayed Bryan Stevenson's life as an Attorney.
This was our first Socratic Seminar of this new book called Blood and thunder. We have already read some of the book and this Seminar was for us to debate whether, the main person we are following in the book, Kit Carson was guilty of mass Native American murder. I got a meets on the written portion and a meets plus on the spoken portion.
