The purpose of this Socratic seminar was to share your thoughts on how we can critique historical figures while also honoring the good things they did. We read an article on this and annotated it, then the next day the class was split into two groups which had Socratic seminars. For this assignment I got a meets, the feedback that the teacher gave me said that I made some good points and talked when I should've, but that it was a little bit hard to hear me. My goal for next time is to speak up more and invite people who aren't talking into the conversation.
This assignment was where we had to read and annotate an article on how Covid-19 and other pandemics have impacted Native Americans and the environment around their reservations, then we had to write a summary of the article using RACES, which means restate, answer, cite, explain, and summarize. For this assignment I got a meets, this is because I restated the question, Answered the question, Cited evidence from the article, explained my evidence, then summarized my paragraph in a conclusion sentence. My goal for next time we do something like this is to site my sources properly. In this case my source was the article. I was supposed to put a period after each citation but i did not do this.
For this exhibition we had to research two people who we thought demonstrated resilience very well, one of them was a historical figure, and one of them was a community member who is still demonstrating resilience today. My two people were Deborah Sampson and my grandpa. We had to write two villanelle poems (one for each person) and on sestina poem (about both people). We then wrote a speech on resilience and presented it and one of our poems in front of the class and parents. For this exhibition I got a meets for the writing portion, and an approaching for the presenting portion. I got an approaching for this portion of the exhibition because while I was presenting, I seemed very nervous and uncomfortable while I was up there, I don't think that there was anything I could've done about this because public speaking gives me anxiety, and the teachers put lots of pressure on us to get a good grade.
