Earth and Space Systems Unit
Earth is no longer habitable. Students will take on the role of engineers and travel sales people pitching their ideas for how to colonize the moon and design a way for humans to suitably live in this harsh environments.
Learning Targets:
I can compare Earth Systems to other planets to determine what conditions are essential for life.
I can assess the impacts humans have had on Earth systems.
Guiding Questions:
What are the natural and human caused threats that Earth systems face?
How are Earth’s systems similar and different compared with the moon?
How do the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere all interact with one another?
Colorado State Standards:
Stars range greatly in size and distance from Earth, and this can explain their relative brightness.
Earth’s orbit and rotation and the orbit of the moon around earth cause observable patterns.
Earth’s major systems interact in multiple ways to affect Earth’s surface materials and processes.
Most of Earth’s water is in the ocean and much of Earth’s freshwater in glaciers or underground.
Societal activities have had major effects on land, ocean, atmosphere and even outer space.
