Kindergarten Entrance Requirements

There are 2 Minnesota statutes related to the requirements for enrolling in kindergarten at a public school, like Morris Area: 

• MN Early Childhood Screening Law

  • • A child must participate in a school district’s Early Childhood Screening program. 

    • A child may also meet this requirement by participating in a comparable health and developmental screening program (such as Head Start or Child and Teen Checkups). 

    • If a parent is a conscientious objector to the screening program for their child, the child does not need to participate in the state screening program. 

• MN School Immunization Law

  • • A parent/guardian must provide documentation of required immunizations.

• A developmental and health screening to determine if your child might need extra help before beginning school.

Not sure:

• The school nurse or your child's kindergarten teacher will contact you if the school does not have the screening results.

Kindergarten Health and Dental Evaluation 

• Well child visit

  • Your health insurance should pay for one well-child physical per year until the age of 6 with no deductible or co-pay. 

• Dental exam

  • Each fall and spring our school hosts a dental outreach.
