Students may be recommended for math acceleration by the classroom teacher, ELP teacher, and/or parents. After recommendation students will need to show mastery of the priority standards for the grade level they will be skipping.
Students will be assessed using a series of questions that correlate to the priority standards for that grade level. These assessments will be given in an interview style with the ELP teacher so that students can share their thinking and we can more easily determine if, and how well, they know the material.
A team consisting of the child's current teacher, the potential math teacher, the ELP teacher, the student's parents, and the principal, will meet to review data and recommendations.
If it is determined that math acceleration is what a student needs, they will travel to another teacher's classroom during math instruction.
