Math

If they have already demonstrated mastery in 3rd Grade Math.

Reading

Find their reading level and have them read literature 1 1/2 levels above their tested one. That will provide perfect balance between the reading being challenged and doable.


Allows you to find books 1 1/2 guided reading levels above their tested level. Even better to find books based on their interests!


Reading poetry is great activity idea for gifted students. This website organizes poems by reading level, length, topic and poetic technique.

Also, for those who are highly artistic and creative, encourage those gifted students to create their own poetry books out of the ones they read and organize them by theme (holidays, seasons, food, etc.)

Social Studies

This site has many quizzes, games, and videos for students to explore to learn more about animals, space, countries, presidents, the US states, and culture to name a few. Allows gifted students to research topics studied in class and use that info to make reports and presentations about their extended learning.


Allows gifted students to explore and research a wide variety of topics in this field while being aligned to state and national standards. These videos, games and activities can be filtered by grade level, topic or time period. They can learn about everything from important historical events, figures, artifacts and the creation of national parks.

Critical Thinking

This Google Doc contains a Bingo Card board of engineering activities that are completely possible to do from home using cheap everyday supplies.

Any student who is interested in creating their own game, app or drawings with through coding will love this site! For students who need to get used to the idea of it, there are also Hour of Code Tutorials that teach students computer code to complete various types of games.

Have a student interested in learning another language? This is the site for them. Offers multiple bite-sized levels of language skills from basic vocabulary to more advanced. The app teaches through game-like quizzes where students type in answers, speak phrases and listen to short audio files in the language they're studying.

Smash Boom Best is a debate show for kids and families. Every episode takes two cool things, smashes them together and lets you decide which is best. Episode examples include Cats versus Dogs, Pizza versus Tacos, and Super Speed versus Super Strength. What will be crowned the best? Its debaters use facts and passion to make their case, teaching listeners how to defend their own opinions along the way.

If a student wants to submit their own message or video recording response defending/explaining their opinion after watching an episode, they can do so, here!

Creativity

Amongst this Bingo card of activities include various opportunities for creativity. A few of these include

  • Designing your own playground

  • Making a car out of edible materials

  • Constructing an unique paper airplane

  • Turning a room in the house into a castle

You are required to be creative to make the art, games and apps you create your own. Students have complete control and say over what gets made, its shape, colors, textures and the code function that goes with it.

Have you ever wondered how theme parks become reality? Disney Imagineers from around the world share how they use a wide range of skills – from story development and conceptual design, to math, physics and engineering – that all come together to create immersive experiences. This course enables exploration of different aspects of theme park design, from characters to ride development, as you design a theme park of your very own.

This collaboration between Pixar and Khan Academy offers a behind-the-scenes look at how Pixar artists do their jobs. The course will teach students how to animate bouncing balls, build a swarm of robots, and make virtual fireworks explode. With Scratch, students can program their own interactive stories, games, and animations. When they're finished, they can share their creations with others. Very similar to Code.org but with different functions and uses.

This NPR podcast guides curious kids on a journey into the wonders of the world around them. Hosts Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz explore topics such as how our brains work, outer space and many more stories in science and technology in episodes.

Music

Create your own a cappella group song from a list of chosen voice generated sound effects. There are seven group types that you can choose from. This can also be accessed on an IPad App. If you create a particularly good sound or mixture of sounds for your song, you will unlock bonus song sections.

Noteflight is an online music writing application that lets you create, view, print and hear professional quality music notation right in your web browser. Create your own music with a variety of instruments, and a variety of compositional tools to choose from.

To make a song, add notes by clicking the grid. Then, share your song with a link. You can also use a MIDI keyboard or sing a note into your mic. You can also use your computer keys. Press the arrow keys to move, enter and backspace to add and remove notes, and spacebar to play.

A website that allows you to engage in a variety of music activities. These include, composing music, conducting, performance, listening to music and playing games about music.

Groove Pizza is free drum sequencing app, a playful tool for creating grooves using math concepts like shapes, angles, and patterns. Start working with one of the special pizza presets and add/remove toppings to adjust the groove, or click on the Shape Pizza tab and drag various shapes onto the big circle to play and explore math-inspired grooves.


Visual Arts

Cassie Stephens created this blog that contains a collection of home-based learning art projects. These projects include making your sketchbook, monochromatic portraits, colorful village drawings and more. She also has MANY art lessons on her YouTube channel.

Contains a large catalogue of video art tutorials for free! These tutorials include follow-along lessons in the following topics.

This resource from Google allows students to explore a variety of collections, artworks and places from over 80 countries. However, it also enables students to research and investigate many artists, artworks, architectural masterpieces, and cultures from all over the world.

Online doodling tool that allows students to draw digitally. Before diving into the tool, Autodraw provides a tutorial for how to work with it. You can solo draw, add text, turn on the Autodraw setting (which guesses what you're drawing), create and add shapes, fill in color, manipulate location, size and rotation of drawings and download your work when done.

Teaches students how to create pixel drawings using Google Sheets through a free 20-color pixel art template with several built-in activities. The sheet linked below includes the following sections.

  • Directions - Brief instructions for how to use the template.

  • Draw - This is a 60 column by 30 row sheet where you can create your pixel art drawing.

  • Fractions 8x8 (&10x10 & 12x12)- This tab allows you to make a pixel art drawing inside of an 8x8 grid, and then you determine the fractions represented by each color you used.

  • Area - This tab allows you to make a pixel art drawing and then determine the area in square units represented by each color you used.

Drama

If your student loves to perform for others, hook them up with this visual communication platform. Through this site, they can create a wide variety of different videos that look professional and are customized by them.

Encourage students' confidence of performing and creativity through this presentation resource. Prezi allows students to present text and visuals by zooming in and out of it and eye-capturing motion. After making your poster page, share with others on a computer through your account, or you can send the link to them.
