Personality

For the second-year project entitled “Personality” we were each given an adjective which can be utilised to characterise a personality, with mine being eccentric. Taking inspiration from Franz Kafka’s novella “The Metamorphosis”, I chose to investigate certain species that undergo this process as well as transformable garments and the categories they belong to, particularly looking at the collections of Hussein Chalayan who has largely experimented with the theme of transformation. For the outcome I created a piece with a sculptural, oversized collar that can be worn in numerous ways as well as optional sleeves; the emerald-coloured taffeta used for the dress is reminiscent of the wings of a beetle, linking back to the novella's protagonist and my theme of exploration.
