'City' was a short project we completed after our main portfolio project in the spring term. Each of us chose an area of London at random from a bag of names. I picked Notting Hill. I started by researching the history of the area. Thomas Allason planned the layout, in which he prioritised communal gardens known as 'pleasure grounds'. This reminded me of the William Blake poem 'Garden of Love', in which Blake uses harsh imagery (i.e 'graves', 'briars'). I kept this imagery in mind when I went to take photos, focusing on signs of hostility.
