Illusions have always been something that have fascinated me, especially the way they trick the eye into believing unimaginable acts have occurred. As a child we all experience illusion in a very naive and raw way, easily accepting the possibility of something magical occurring. As we gain age and knowledge an illusion appears as a problem to solve, however, once solved, an illusion amounts to nothing but what is destroyed in its execution. Most illusions have a hidden darkness behind the showmanship and facade. Illusions distort the senses and reveal a loophole in the normal functioning of the human brain, distorting our perceptions of reality. In this moment humans experience a glimpse of living in fantastical world where the occurrence of these acts is possible, creating an element of escapism and a unique experience of the extra-ordinary. This fine line between illusion and reality is something I aimed to capture and translate through this body of work.
