What can I expect as a parent?
We use different language in the atrium, when asking your children about their experience, remember:
Atrium, not classroom
Catechist, not teacher
Presentations, not lessons
Not play with toys, work with materials
What does Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation look like in the Atrium?
The beauty of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is that your child has been preparing for their sacraments since the age of 3 when they were in preschool. As adults, we tend to put our own wounds and fears on the preparation for First Reconciliation, when your child only requires the form and matter, both of which will come easily as their relationship with the Good Shepherd is the foundation for their preparation. The Good Shepherd called them by name. The Good Shepherd will leave the 99 in search of the 1 who was lost. And now, to remain and thrive on the Vine, we acknowledge our blocks in our branch and ask for help.
Sacramental Preparation will revolve around the parable of The True Vine. We will introduce the Maxims as a way of examining our conscience, and will listen and work with moral parables like: The Good Samaritan, The Found Coin, The Pharisee and the Tax Collector, The Insistent Friend.
We also have created materials that will help with the order of Reconciliation and the Act of Contrition.
Questions to ask your child about their experience:
What brought you joy in the atrium today?
What work did you choose today?
Did you see a new presentation today?
What will your child experience in the Atrium this month?
