What can I expect as a parent?
We use different language in the atrium, when asking your children about their experience, remember:
Atrium, not classroom
Catechist, not teacher
Presentations, not lessons
Not play with toys, work with materials
How will Level 2 CGS be different than Level 1?
First graders have typically reached the next plane of development, as outlined by Maria Montessori. This 6-9 age range is all about internal order, versus the previous external order they so beautifully managed in the 3-5 age range. With this sense of internal order comes the conceptualization of time, as well as a deep sense of justice and what is fair. In first grade we capitalize on these developmental changes and begin by introducing the History of the Kingdom of God. We discuss God's time and creation in reference to the Kingdom that is and what shall be - Parousia! As early readers, we begin discussing the Bible and its many books, and begin doing reading, writing, or both with every material they use in the Atrium. Lastly, we introduce the Moral Parables and begin preparing for the sacraments they will receive in 2nd grade!
Questions to ask your child about their experience:
What brought you joy in the atrium today?
What work did you choose today?
Did you see a new presentation today?
What will your child experience in the Atrium this month?
