8th grade Family and Consumer Science is an exploratory that takes place for approximately 9 weeks. 8th graders will each take four different exploratories in rotation during the year. During this class, we will learn about the food plate and nutrition, and we will focus on the basics of the kitchen like reading recipes, basic cooking and cleaning vocabulary and skills, and safety in the kitchen. We then take a few weeks where students actually work in kitchens preparing some sample recipes, cleaning up at the end, and washing the laundry.
