11th Grade – Digital Electronics

Course Description

Students explore the foundations of computing by engaging in circuit design processes to create combinational logic and sequential logic (memory) as electrical/electronics engineers do in the industry.

The Monster Doll Project

Each year, students in Mr. Kline's 11th grade class work together in teams to build monster dolls that are included in the 12th grade-organized Haunted House.

Juniors are tasked with building & designing a monster doll. The monster doll itself is a complex mechanism that uses digital control techniques to light built-in LEDs.

  • What is the problem or need?

  • Who has the problem or need?

  • Why is it important to solve?

Juniors collaborate with seniors for the Haunted House, which the seniors design & organize.

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. Mr. Kline's classes compete in the following fields in regional, state, and national competitions:

Mobile Electronics Installations

      • This event tests contestants’ abilities to perform standard installation practices used by certified, professional mobile electronics installers. These skills have been established through the certification objectives and items created for the Basic MECP certification by the Consumer Electronics Association.

Electronics Technology

  • The contest is divided into five sections: customer service exam, written exam, soldering, breadboarding and troubleshooting. Contestants will demonstrate their knowledge of analog and digital circuitry; ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits; ability to construct and test experimental circuits; and, ability to design and select circuit components.

National Championship (in Louisville, KY)

Mr. Kline has led his students through regional, state, and national competitions throughout the years. Here are the winners so far:
