LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

River Valley Credit Union's Fast Track To Higher Learning Scholarships: Scholarships are available to active members in good standing of River Valley Credit Union. Scholarships are available to members who are High School Seniors. Due February 10th, 2023 to College Adviser.


MCS Common Scholarship Application: Only one application needed. Beatrice Houghton Memorial, Bernard Gray, Frank Fedewa, Debi Dobrastine Memorial, Carolyn Cornell Memorial, Montabella Bus Drivers, Montabella Athletic Boosters, Howard Cannady, Hobart Abbot, Linsey Cory Parr Memorial, Glenn Curtis Scholarship, Emily Longnecker Memorial, Montabella Band Boosters. Grand Rapids Community Foundation Scholarships: One application for 80+ need-based scholarships. Students will apply here. Due March 1st, 2023 online.


Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation Scholarships: A collection of over 70 scholarships for students who reside in Isabella county and the surrounding counties. Students will fill out one application at https://www.mpacf.org/apply-for-a-scholarship that will automatically select which scholarships the student is eligible for. Due March 1st, 2023 online.


Darwin & Ethelda Van Houten Scholarship: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a graduating senior interested in pursuing any form of post-secondary education by attending a trade school, community college or university, with preference being given to those from Six Lakes and the surrounding area. Applicants must live in the area serviced by Montabella Community Schools; must be a graduating high school senior, or be a previous recipient; must have a 2.0 GPA; must provide a copy of high school transcript; must be a well-rounded individual with preference given to those who have participated in band or athletics; and provide a written statement indicating extra-curricular activities and why he/she should receive this scholarship. Natalie Young Music Scholarship: The family of Natalie Ann Young started this scholarship to provide support for a graduating senior from the Lakeview, Montabella or Greenville schools, who is pursuing higher education to study music and/or education by attending a community college or college/university. Candidates must have been involved with the school’s music program during their high school years and show that music will play a prominent role in their future. Special consideration will be given to those who participated in extracurricular activities and community service projects while attending school, and students planning to attend Central Michigan University, Natalie’s alma mater. Deborah Ann Dobbrastine Weatherford Memorial Scholarship: Tom Weatherford and family established this scholarship fund to honor his wife, Deborah, to provide financial assistance to a student(s) attending Montabella Community Schools who is pursuing higher education at a nonprofit career/vocational/technical school, community college or university. Areas of study given special consideration include secondary education, business education, public administration, office practice, counseling, or fine arts. Preference given to students planning to attend Central Michigan University, Montcalm Community College, or a Michigan nonprofit career/vocational/technical school.Due March 4th, 2023 online at gacfmi.org/scholarships-for-graduates/


Stanley & Blanche Ash Scholarship: Must be a graduating senior in good standing with plans to attend a college or university. Recipients are chosen based on prior academic performance, high school extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate a financial need. This renewable scholarship is worth a total of $8,000 over 8 consecutive semesters or terms. Due March 4th, 2023 online at gacfmi.org/scholarships-for-graduates/


Grace Wilhelm Memorial Scholarship Application: This scholarship will provide financial assistance to an area graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education. Applicant must show evidence of at least a 3.0 GPA in his/her college/career preparatory classes, must be an active member of a local Judeo-Christian congregation, and actively involved in extracurricular community service activities. A Pastor Letter of Recomendation is encouraged. Preference will be given to student who is an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church (Greenville, MI) and/or other church related youth groups in the area. HCAT Directors' Youth Theatre Scholarship: Up to five scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who have been active participants in community theater productions and plan to pursue additional education after high school. Applicants are required to include with the application, a list of theater productions and involvement on stage or behind the scenes including Greenville Middle and High School, Hans Christian Andersen Theatre (HCAT), Flat River Community Players, other productions and workshops. A brief essay that addresses “what theater has meant to me” must also be submitted. Due March 4th, 2023 online at gacfmi.org/scholarships-for-graduates/


Bryan "BA" Anderson Skilled Trades Scholarship: One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing a career in skilled trades. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in construction trades and those students attending Montcalm Community College. The applicant must show evidence of a strong work ethic, community service activity, and financial need. Due March 4th, 2023 online at gacfmi.org/scholarships-for-graduates/


2023 Touchstone Energy High School Senior Scholarship Program: Applicant must be a high school senior and U.S. citizen, whose parents or guardians are currently member-owners of the cooperative. Preference is given to students whose primary residence lies within HomeWorks Tri-County Electric Cooperative’s service area. A “member-owner” purchases electricity from HomeWorks in their own name. (Children of HomeWorks Tri-County employees are also eligible if they meet the membership requirements listed here.) Please look at the application for additional eligibility criteria. Claudia S. Riley Memorial Scholarship: Open to all graduating seniors. Due March 24th, 2023 to the College Adviser.


Dennis R. Riley Memorial Scholarship: Open to all graduating seniors. Due March 24th, 2023 to the College Adviser.


Community First Federal Credit Union High School Senior College Scholarship: Only open to students who are members or have family who are members of Community First Federal Credit Union. Students must have a 3.0 GPA. High school seniors who will be attending either a 2-year or 4-year program at a community college or university. Due April 1st, 2023 to the College Adviser.


Blanchard Telephone Scholarship: Scholarship is only open to current Blanchard Telephone Association Customers. Due April 2nd, 2023 to the College Adviser.


Great Commission Outreach Ministries Scholarship Program: This scholarship is awarded to a Montabella High School Senior who will be graduating in the spring of 2021 and will be attending a technical, professional, or trade school/program in the fall of 2021 term. Due May 1st, 2023 to the College Adviser.


Montcalm Community College Scholarships: Many different awards are available. Apply online through MCC's website. Online application, no due date listed on the website.


HBA Foundation of Greater Grand Rapids Endowed Scholarship: Student attending Ferris State University. The recipient must be a full or part-time student enrolled in the Construction Technology & Management program, Building Concentration at the time of application, and have completed at least one semester of CONM courses. The recipient must have a minimum 2.75 GPA at the time of application. The recipient must have attended high school within Kent, Ionia, Montcalm, or Ottawa County. Donald Vandenbos Sr. Memorial ( Mid-Michigan United Sportsmen’s Alliance): Applicants must be a 2021 graduating high school senior or a high school graduate. Preference will be given to graduates from educational institutions in the greater Montcalm County area. Applicants must be in or entering a field of study of conservation, wildlife, fisheries, or natural resources. Grade Point Average will be a consideration and a transcript is required. Financial need will not be a selection criteria. Required Letters of Recommendation should attest to the applicant’s character and abilities to succeed. Community service experience related to conservation, wildlife, fisheries, natural resources, or the environment will be a consideration. Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application form and an essay describing their career and professional goals and why they would like to receive this scholarship and file with MMUSA. Pulse of Perseverance Monthly Scholarship - Student must be African American. Gates Millennium Scholars Program - This is the nation's largest private scholarship program and works to eliminate financial barriers for African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Hispanic American Students to further their education.

Arab-American Women’s Business Council Scholarship - The Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC) wishes to foster the growth and academic achievement of Arab American Women. The AAWBC established a scholarship fund to provide educational opportunities to females of Arab descent in the state of Michigan and going to attend a school in Michigan. $1000 scholarships will be awarded in 2020/2021 at the discretion of the AAWBC Scholarship committee.

Porch Scholarship: Porch is very passionate about helping students achieve higher education. The $2,000 scholarship occurs four times a year and is open to high school seniors and current college students.

Horatio Alger Scholarships - There are multiple scholarships in many different fields; most require financial need. The description of the state scholarship requires: Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2021 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation. Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution). Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required). Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities. Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and Be a United States citizen.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship: $1,000, $1,250, $1,500. This is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship: The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $30,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: This award recognizes middle level and high school grades who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.

Regeneron Science Talent Search: The Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science competition for high school seniors, providing an important forum for original research that is recognized and reviewed by a national jury of professional scientists. Alumni have made extraordinary contributions to science and have earned many of the world’s most distinguished science and math honors, including thirteen Nobel Prizes. Annually, over 1,800 high school seniors from around the country accept the challenge of conducting independent science, math or engineering research and completing an entry for the Regeneron Science Talent Search. The competition recognizes 300 student scholars and their schools each year and invites 40 student finalists to Washington, D.C. to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, and meet with notable scientists and government leaders. Each year, Regeneron STS scholars and finalists compete for $3.1 million in awards.

Elks Scholars: The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is open to high achieving seniors. Awards are between $1,000 - $12,500. Everything is now completed online.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship: Must have a 3.5 GPA, SAT is not required this year. Plan to graduate from a US high school in the spring of 2021. Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in the fall of 2021. Demonstrate significant unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family incomes up to $95,000. However, we anticipate that a majority of scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive a Pell Grant.

Beacon Scholarship for Rural America: The Beacon® Scholarship for Rural America is intended for applicants who are college-bound graduating high school seniors, current college students, or adult learners with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (high school or college) and who are planning to enroll in an accredited college program. Applicants must also reside in a rural area and meet low-income criteria. Must write essay of approximately 750 words responding to the prompt: "How have you shown patriotism through your community involvement?" Hagan Scholarship Foundation: The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship. The scholarship is designed to help students graduate college debt free. Recipients must graduate from a public high school located in a county with fewer than 50,000 residents. The scholarship provides up to $6,000 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Must attend an Eligible Public High School.

Dell Scholars Program: "Our GPA requirement is Grit, Potential, and Ambition."

To be eligible to apply for the Dell Scholars Program scholarship, you must meet the below listed criteria:Participating in a Michael & Susan Dell Foundation approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12 Graduating from an accredited high school this academic year. Earning a minimum of a 2.4 GPA. Demonstrated need for financial assistance. Eligible to receive a federal Pell grant in the first year of college. Planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the fall directly after your graduation from high school.

The Science Ambassador Scholarship: Film a three–minute educational video of yourself explaining a STEM topic you're passionate about. You must be a high school senior or an undergraduate college student to apply.

Burger King Scholarship $1,000-$50,000: A scholarship for students with jobs. You do NOT have to work at Burger King to apply for this scholarship. The BURGER KING℠ Scholars program assists employees, employees' spouses or domestic partners, employees' children and high school seniors in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada in continuing their education. To date, the program has awarded more than $40 million in scholarships to more than 36,000 students. Last year alone, $4 million in scholarships were awarded to nearly 3,000 deserving students. Creative Safety Supply Scholarship: To apply for the scholarship, download and fill out a copy of the application, available below in Microsoft Word and PDF formats on the website. Then submit all of the following application materials by email to scholarships@creativesafetysupply.com: Completed application form An unofficial copy of your transcript or school record showing your GPA. You may use your high school transcript if you’re a freshman. Essay answers to both of the following questions in either .doc or .pdf format: What career path have you chosen? What made you choose this path? (300-500 words) How have you used creative thinking/problem solving to help you accomplish your academic or personal goals? (500-750 words). Equitable ExcellenceSM Scholarship: Equitable Foundation has established the Equitable Excellence℠ Scholarship Program to assist high school seniors who are planning to continue their education at a two- or four-year college in the United States by Fall 2021. This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. In compliance with Federal law, this program will not discriminate in the terms, conditions or privileges of participation on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability or sexual orientation.

Free Speech Essay Contest FIRE Foundation for Individual Rights in Education:

Open to juniors and seniors in U.S. high schools, including home-schooled students, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools overseas. In a persuasive letter or essay, convince your peers that free speech is a better idea than censorship. Your letter or essay must be between 700-900 words. FIRE encourages you to draw from current events, historical examples, our free speech comic, other resources on FIRE’s website, and/or your own personal experiences.

Bottari & Doyle, P.A. Law Firm Community Service Scholarship: - $1,000 scholarship. Submit your current resume showing: the community service that you performed (names of organizations, supervisors), service dates, and a description of your service. An unofficial undergraduate transcript showing at least a 3.0 GPA. A maximum 1,000.00 word essay describing: What did you learn from performing community service? How did you positively affect someone else’s life by performing community service? What did you enjoy most about performing community service? NRA Defense Scholarship: The NRA Civil rights Defense Fund uses an essay format. The theme for the essay is "What does the 2nd Amendment mean to you?" Essays will be judged in two categories. Senior(grades 9-12) and Junior(grades 8 and below), with separate cash prizes awarded to the winners in each category. First place cash prizes are $1,000, $600 for second place, $200 for third place, and $100 for fourth place.

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund: Awards scholarships to Asian and Pacific Islander Americans from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or with significant leadership and community service experience in high school.

NALS of Michigan Scholarship Fund $1,000 - NALS of Michigan Scholarship Fund shall present a $1,000 non-renewable tuition/books only scholarship available to those enrolled in a school of advanced education in the legal field.

Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship: Must be planning a career of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government.

DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest Program: This scholarship intends to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in an accredited college/university.

Gleaner Life Insurance Scholarship: The application is to be completed online. In order to be eligible for consideration, the student must be a Gleaner member or a member of a Gleaner family(parent, child, grandchild, sibling). The student must also be a HS senior that is planning to/or currently attending an accredited vocational/technical school, college, university. The scholarship is worth $3,000. Check the page for the deadline.

Davidson Fellows Scholarship: The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to gifted and high-achieving students, 18 years old or under, who have completed a significant piece of work. Application categories are Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy and Outside the Box. By significant piece of work, they may research or project based work.

MEA Scholarship: Dependent of MEA member or MEA-Retired member in good standing. Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit. (Diploma must be received in the year of application.) Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification, or license.

Michigan Society of Professional Engineers - The Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) encourages high school seniors with talent and commitment to pursue an engineering degree. MSPE offers scholarships to students pursuing an engineering degree at an ABET-accredited college or university in Michigan. The scholarships are funded by the past and current generosity of individuals, leading companies and educational institutions. All scholarships are based on merit and are to be used toward tuition. Applicants must meet minimum criteria to qualify.

Gerber Federal Credit Union - Essay competition. Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a Gerber Federal Credit Union member and current high school senior planning to attend an accredited technical school, community college, trade school, four-year accredited college or university or an apprentice program. The Divorce Stigma Scholarship - The winner of the scholarship will be chosen based on the criteria outlined below and will be awarded this $1,000 award to pursue their education. The eligibility requirements for The Divorce Stigma Scholarship are as follows: Applicants must be currently enrolled or about to attend an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program within the United States. Applicants must have a minimum current GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The applicant must write a 750-word essay explaining how a divorce experience produced a positive outcome for those involved.

Community Choice Scholarship - Through its Scholarship Program, the Community Choice Foundation empowers local students to achieve their college dreams while remaining in Michigan after graduation. When a student receives our financial support they are pledging to use their education to Give Big™ in Michigan by living and working here after they graduate. The Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation Scholarship - Award Amount: $1000.00. This scholarship may be renewed once the following academic year. Student must request renewal by April 1, 2020 and show proof of continued enrollment in one of the eligibility fields of study while maintaining passing grades. Applicant shall be a U.S. citizen and Michigan resident age 17 or older. Applicant shall have obtained a cumulative 2.50 Grade Point Average or higher with a demonstrated record of good attendance. Applicant shall be accepted and entering into a field of study at an accredited post-secondary institution or accredited basic police or fire training academy. Applicant shall be entering into one of the following fields of study: mediation, dispute resolution, criminal justice, law enforcement, firefighting or paramedic services. Applicant shall be pursuing an associate, undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate degree. Applicant should be familiar with the legacy of Officer Rose. Applicant shall submit a 500 word biographical essay detailing their achievements and career aspirations. Applicant shall submit their most recent school transcript. Applicant shall submit a portrait photograph suitable for publication. Applicant may also submit a letter of recommendation if desired. Applicant must be available for a personal interview by the Scholarship Awards Committee if so requested.

SET Educational Fund - The S.E.T. Educational Fund was founded in Michigan in 1998 in order to provide scholarships to Michigan residents who are attending Michigan colleges. Kids' Chance of Michigan - Kids’ Chance of Michigan is headquartered in Huntington Woods to present $2,500 to $5,000 scholarships for legal dependents of employees covered under Workers’ Compensation Law. Funding supports the children of Michiganders who were killed or catastrophically injured in a compensable, on-the-job accident. Applications, along with legal documents, a Student Aid Report, transcripts, and three recommendation forms, should arrive before July 1st.

$5,000 Hach & Rose, LLP Annual College Scholarship - Hach & Rose, LLP will provide $5,000 to help one student who is a graduating senior in high school or in good standing with their university, college, community college, or graduate school in the United States. To be eligible for selection for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: Your life must have been touched by a person injured due to someone else’s negligence. You must be a legal resident of the United States. At the date of the award, you must be at least eighteen (18) years old. At the date of the award, you must be enrolled (or accepted with plans to attend) in a college, university, or graduate program in the United States. For graduating high school seniors, have a sealed, official transcript from your high school by the time the scholarship is disbursed on July 15, 2020. (This will replace proof of enrollment and good standing in a college, university, or graduate school) Complete the essay according to the prompt below. If you meet all of the requirements above, you are eligible to be awarded this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to the qualified candidate who writes the most compelling essay on the prompt.

2021 National Merit Scholarship Program - Received Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-consecutive month period between age of nine and high school graduation. Must complete application (via MiSSG Student Portal or phone) before August 31 of the year you graduate. File the 2021-2022 FAFSA. Obtain a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent prior to age 20. Must be a Michigan resident and a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee.

Making the Turn Against Parkinson's - Candidates must submit an original creative work of their own making that evokes an emotional response about Parkinson's disease. Grief, anger, laughter, or confusion, it does not matter which emotion, only that your original work draws an emotional response from its audience. Candidates must be a relative of a patient (living or deceased) diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Tips and Tricks

  • Start your scholarship search early - it is never too early to look for scholarships.

  • Don't be afraid of scholarships with essays! Many other students will not complete the application due to the essay which lowers your competition.

  • Need help with an essay?

    • Ask your College Adviser or one of your teachers.

  • Check out the website for the college(s) you are looking at attending. Those scholarships are specifically for their students only which reduces outside competition.

  • Proof read and make the necessary changes

  • Be yourself! Show the scholarship committee who you are and why you deserve the scholarship.

  • Remember the deadlines and plan ahead!
