School Opening Information

All Monroe Township Public Schools will resume on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 except for Whitehall Elementary. Students and staff from Whitehall Elementary will resume classes on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

Plan for Reopening Schools

  • Schools will be reopened to students on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Students should report to their assigned schools. Holly Glen students will follow the relocation plans available in the October 13 daily update. District administration will be meeting throughout the weekend to determine the proper in-district temporary relocation plans for Whitehall.
  • Whitehall Elementary students and staff will be relocated to Williamstown Middle School.
  • On Monday, all staff (teachers, secretaries, clerks) will return to work at 8:00AM. All staff should report to the WHS Theater. This will be an inservice day. After the conclusion of the meeting, all staff will report to their respective buildings to continue the day preparing for moves to be made. Holly Glen teachers will report to their new locations. Classrooms that are currently in isolation will be cleared by Monday. Paraprofessionals will report to their respective buildings on Tuesday, October 17.
  • In the October 12 daily update, Mr. Earling stated that “any Monroe Township Public Schools student who was not in school on Friday, October 6th will be excused from school on that date”. We need to clarify that Holly Glen had school cancelled that day by the district. Per state code, all students need to be in school 180 days in the school year. If the district cancelled school, then that day will need to be made up. We will provide further information regarding that in the future.

Plan for Holly Glen:

  • The remediation of Holly Glen could take a minimum of 3 months. The final cost is to be determined when the final estimate comes in. The insurance company has been notified and the district is waiting for a response.
  • The plan for Holly Glen Relocation that was voted on by the Board of Education Thursday October 5, 2017 is still in place. (4th Grade to WHS K-wing, K-3 to Radix, PDD program to Oak Knoll)
  • The HVAC system will be replaced at Holly Glen to help solve the moisture problems. Engineers are currently working on getting specs together to present to the Board of Education.

Makeup days:

  • A question was brought up that the students’ missed days could be made up during teacher in-services. This will be discussed with the district administrative team and a decision will be forthcoming.
  • At this time, these days will be made up and an updated school calendar will be sent out when it is created. The school year cannot be extended past June 30th.
  • When school is back in session, classroom instruction will resume.
  • Principals will have an administrative meeting to discuss make-up days and the feasibility of using half days or in-service days to make up time. Elementary Parent Conferences will also be discussed at this meeting. Outcomes of this meeting will be part of a future daily update. No new information at this time.
