In CKLA Unit 3, students dive into the world of poetry, exploring how poets use language in creative and powerful ways. Students read a variety of poems—fun, serious, rhythmic, and descriptive—and learn to identify important elements like rhyme, rhythm, stanza, alliteration, and imagery. They practice discussing what poems mean, how they make us feel, and how poets use words to paint pictures in the reader’s mind. Students will also try writing their own poems, experimenting with sound, structure, and figurative language. This unit helps students develop a deeper appreciation for poetry while strengthening reading fluency, vocabulary, and creative expression.
We do not always do every lesson in each unit. If you see a lesson missing, this is why.
