Ecology
In our final CKLA unit of the year, students will investigate the relationships between living things and their environments. Through engaging informational texts, students will discover how plants, animals, and people depend on one another while strengthening the literacy skills they have developed throughout third grade.
Throughout this unit, students will:
Learn about ecosystems, habitats, food chains, and food webs.
Explore how living and nonliving things interact within an environment.
Discover the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting habitats.
Build science vocabulary related to ecology and environmental science.
Practice identifying key ideas, summarizing information, and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text.
Continue strengthening writing, grammar, and speaking skills while reflecting on what they have learned throughout the year.
You can support your child by:
Spending time outdoors observing plants, animals, and their habitats.
Talking about simple ways your family can care for the environment, such as recycling or conserving water.
Reading books or watching documentaries about ecosystems together.
Encouraging your child to explain how living things depend on one another.
This unit encourages students to become thoughtful stewards of the environment while celebrating the tremendous growth they have made as readers, writers, and learners throughout third grade.
