Modesto City Schools will provide high school and junior high school students with a Chromebook, charger, and a protective case that must be used at all times. As part of Modesto City Schools' Future Ready Initiative, students will have the opportunity to access District adopted digital content, as well as other supplemental content for all subjects. More information can be found in the Future Ready Handbook at www.mcs4kids.com, and in the Conduct Code & Information Handbook publication, provided at the start of the school year.
While our intent is to make computer access available to further the delivery of the curriculum, students may find ways to access inappropriate material. Ultimately, parents and guardians are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources. The Internet is a powerful learning tool, but it should not be used indiscriminately or without supervision. While your child is at school, our staff members make every effort to assure this resource is used appropriately. As the parent/guardian, it is your responsibility to monitor this resource at home, not unlike the manner in which you monitor the use of TV, video games, or the telephone. It is not advisable for children to engage in long hours of unsupervised time on-line. Both the parent and student should read the Future Ready Handbook found on www.mcs4kids.com.
By acknowledging receipt of the Conduct Code & Information Handbook publication, both the parent/guardian and student agree that the computer and its components are the sole property of Modesto City Schools. The computer is for educational purposes only. The equipment is loaned to the student and will be returned when the student drops, completes the school year, graduates, or upon request of the school. The computer may not be transferred or given to any other student. Both the parent and student should read the Future Ready Handbook found on www.mcs4kids.com. The cost to replace the device if lost or stolen is $500. The cost to replace the power adapter if lost or stolen is $35.
The Parent/guardian may purchase optional annual limited technology coverage for $20 per student, once per school year through the last day in April. With the optional limited technology coverage, the first damage/breakage will incur no fine, while the 2nd and subsequent breakage(s) will incur a $60 fine. Without the optional limited technology coverage, the first and subsequent damage/breakage will incur a $60 fine. Coverage is not guaranteed until the day after payment is made to the Student Body Office or to the school site's online web store. The parent/guardian of the student will pay for the computer and its components if lost or stolen.
