Monash Nutrition Lunchbox Seminar Series

Showcasing a platter of approaches to public health nutrition practice

SEMINAR 2: Communicating Health - Speaking young adults’ language when it comes to health

Monday 19th October 2020 12:00-12:45pm

This seminar described how targeted communication approaches can enhance public health practice, particularly when utilising social marketing. We introduced key findings from the Communicating Health study, a 4 year NHMRC funded project which is exploring the use of social marketing in nutrition. The purpose of Communicating Health is to assist health professionals in optimising their communication strategies, using social marketing best practice, particularly via social media. This seminar presented findings from the formative research, describing the meaning of health and nutrition to young adults and their views on nutrition communication.

Dr Meaghan Christian facilitated a conversation with researchers from the Communicating Health study, Dr Tracy McCaffrey and Annika Molenaar, on their perspectives of communicating health particularly with young adults on social media and the potential impact of utilising social marketing principles in public health nutrition practice.
