International students bring alternative ways of knowing and being to the classroom. As part of the Communication Workshop in the curriculum, international students were facilitated to share their different healthcare access experiences in their home countries. We talked about trust in the therapeutic relationship, the unique cultural essence in communication shaping clinical expectations, and the very-different healthcare system with alternative priorities and needs. On one hand, international students felt empowered to speak up and have the spotlight on their strengths; on the other, the stories helped our domestic students to expand their understanding on alternative healthcare practices.
