It is a working in progress but with border closures during COVID-19 pandemic and collaborations with our international alumni, we have been offering placement or volunteering experiences overseas.
Since 2021, some of our Singaporean dietetic students have been completing part of their clinical placement in Changi General Hospital in Singapore which contributed to their required placement hours. The experience enhanced the application of their Australian acquired nutrition and dietetics knowledge to the community at home while being exposed to the different food systems and food environment. Many Singaporean students have since secured positions in various local hospitals upon graduation.
In 2023, we started offering short voluntary internships during semester breaks in the Gleneagles Hospital and NutriWise Wellness Hub in Hong Kong. While these internships are project-based opportunities, the student-volunteers were able to immerse in the Hong Kong hospital or dietetic private practice environment and contribute to respective the dietetics teams. These unique opportunities pave a supportive pathway for our new international graduates to translate their Australian-dietetic knowledge in the Asian healthcare space.
