Team Orca First Runner-Up at EY Asia Pacific Cyber Case Competition 2019

Congratulations to Bryan Thean Li Ren, Howard Ho Zi Hui, Leo Kah Man, and Chong Mee Hun of Team Orca for emerging First Runner-up at the EY Asia Pacific Cyber Case Competition 2019, held in Hong Kong on 2 March 2019. All four of them are our Business students.

A brief sharing from the winners:

To get to the global round, we had to prepare an online written case and create a short video introducing our team & how cybersecurity will change the business landscape. Out of over 70 teams who applied, only 10 global teams were selected from Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and South Korea, and thankfully we were the only team selected from Malaysia for the case competition.

On the day of the competition, we were given two different cases - Round 1 was a business case simulation for a large multinational bank that needed to react to a cyber threat and address a shareholder conference after.

Following that - when it was announced we were top 3, they let us know which one of the two cases we were told to pre-prepare (Facebook OR Marriott). The final case was about Facebook, analyzing the entire Cambridge Analytica incident and to design a cybersecurity strategy for Facebook moving forward.

The other two winning teams were from University of Auckland (Champions) and Monash University Australia (Second Runner-up). Team Orca took home a cash prize of HK$10,000.

Bravo! Thank you for making Monash Malaysia proud of your achievements!

We also wholeheartedly thank Han Ther Lee, Jerry and Eljae of KPMG Management and Risk Consulting for sharing insights on cyber security with the team.
