WELCOME

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

To student members of the School of Business,

Welcome back to those of you who are returning and a very warm welcome to those who are joining us for the first time. For new students we hope you are now beginning to feel at home and you are excited about your studies and life at Monash Malaysia. We are a friendly and inclusive school where your education, learning and long-term future is of paramount importance to us.

Learning Outside the Classroom

University study is more than attending formal classes and working away tirelessly in the library to meet assignment deadlines and pass examinations. Clearly these activities are important but of equal importance is the range of informal learning activities such as participation in clubs and societies, networking with your classmates, engaging with industry and the community, and entering into competitions where you will be developing innovative solutions to real business problems. Please take advantage of all that Monash has to offer.

Our Commitment to Global Recognition: AACSB

I would also like to share some of the important aspects of the School with you. The School of Business is accredited by AACSB, the premier global business school accreditation body. This accreditation is important to us and to you as it is international recognition of the quality of teaching and learning at the School of Business.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Education: PRME

The School is also an Advanced Signatory Member of PRME, a United Nations initiative to encourage business schools to promote sustainability and ethical behaviour. We do this by focusing on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in our teaching, research and engagement with industry and the community. These goals are on display in the School's lobby. Both these international initiatives are important as they ensure the quality of your education and demonstrate how we all can make the world a better place in which to live and work.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub (eiHub) is another key component of the School. The eiHub is located on Level 2 of Building 6 and was established to provide you with the opportunities to explore new and innovative business

activities. Please take some time to talk to the staff in the Hub and find out about the programs and activities they offer. I would encourage you to attend some of these functions as we want you to think about what the future business world will look like rather than simply thinking it will be business as usual. The same is true of the many clubs and societies that you can join on campus. Not only will you meet like minded people but you will gain leadership and group skills that are so important to business.

I hope I am able to meet many of you during the year. If you see me on campus please come and say hello and to chat with me about the School, the many business activities we conduct, and the way you can contribute to the life and activities of the School.

I wish you well in your studies this year.

Best wishes,

Professor John Benson

Head, School of Business
