eiHub Maker Workshop

Overview

The eiHub Maker Workshops are hands-on learning modules designed around a material, a process, or a problem. Arm yourself with the ability to create innovative solutions to problems by mastering the manipulation of materials, tinkering with new techniques, and gaining new skillsets. Each Maker Workshop has a focused outcome and provides 60-90 minutes of guided hands-on learning. Learn at your own pace and be supported in your journey to be a maker.

3D Printing Basics Workshop

This workshop will focus on the the basics of 3D printing concepts, simple 3D modelling, and using a 3D printer. Learn about the extrusion method to 3D printing, as this will be the type of 3D printer showcased.

3D Pen Basics Workshop

This Maker workshop will focus on the basics of 3D printing concepts, simple 3D modelling, and using a 3D pen. Learn about the extrusion method to 3D printing, as this is how 3D pens work.

Epoxy Resin Workshop

This Maker workshop will introduce you to the basics of epoxy resin, a versatile compound that is liquid in form when worked with but a solid plastic when cured. Learn how to mix and cure, using colouring and molds, and safety tips on using epoxy resin.

eiHub Maker Challenge 1

The eiHub Maker Challenge invite staff and students to design and make a working solution to a given everyday problem in 60 minutes.

Each challenge limits the choice of materials allowed, but no caps on creativity! The first eiHub Maker Challenge is all about the kitchen and it features polymer clay together with a range of kitchen consumables as your making 'ingredients'.

No idea what polymer clay is? Don't worry, there will be help!

Format:

5 mins - Problem Presentation

5 mins - Design Stage

40 mins - Making Stage

10 mins - Solution Showcase

Rules:

You can only use the materials that are made available to you.
You must follow the time given strictly.
You can interpret the problem given in any way you like.
You need to abide by the rules of the eiHub at all times.

Prizes:

Only working solutions, as determined by the judges, will be in the running for the following prizes:

Practical Minimalist - solution that is designed for simplicity, using materials only when needed.

Creative Flamboyance - solution that is designed for attention, is unusually interesting and attention grabbing.

Winner of each prize will receive a eiHub voucher for 1(ONE) free Entrepreneurial Skills Series Module, RM20 in 3D Printing credits, and 1(ONE) custom designed t-shirt OR tote bag!

Polymer Clay Workshop: Cuts & Presses

This Maker workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of making with polymer clay, highlighting cutter technique to create complex patterns and foil leaf pressing to create metallic finish for your creation.
