This information was emailed to parents of MES Remote Learners on August 18:
Parents,
We have received the information from the survey that your family is choosing remote learning for the first semester of 20-21. Here are some details that I can share with you at this time.
For K-6, we will be utilizing iReady for Reading and Math work in addition to other virtual lessons, activities and meetings. Our specialists will be providing 1-2 recorded lessons and activities for art, music and PE per week.
For our K-2 learners, Miss Taylor Gillig will be your primary contact and instructor. In collaboration with our K-2 team, she will be providing lessons to be delivered in an online tool called SeeSaw (it is like Google Classroom, but for younger students). She will have some daily virtual meeting opportunities during the school day, but will also be recording those sessions for students who are not able to "attend" during the school day.
Because we departmentalize in grades 3-6, our teachers will be providing content-based instruction and assignments through Google Classroom that will be recorded in addition to iReady work. They will have remote learning office hours during the school day for tutoring and student check-ins. Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Wentling will also be helping to monitor completion of work for our older students.
Students in grades 2-6 will receive letter grades in ELA, math, science and social studies. Kindergartners receive S or U in all subjects, while first graders receive letter grades in math and ELA with S and U in science and social studies.
All students will receive an S or U in gym, art and music. Daily attendance will be taken using iReady logins and then reported to the State of Ohio through our student information system. Our truancy policy will apply to remote learners.
Because our students have not had any diagnostic assessments in math or reading since early December, we will need for you to schedule two appointments for testing to be completed at the MCI building. Students only will be entering the building. Testing will be taking place in the Bingo Hall with physical distancing, masks and disinfection of tables, chairs and Chromebooks between groups. They will need one session for math and one for reading. Students typically take between 45 minutes and an hour per assessment. K students will only need to attend one testing session as they will be completing the reading testing at K screening. Please do not schedule your sessions back-to-back.
We will be asking families to sign a remote learning contract, outlining expectations of students, parents and staff during the testing appointments. Students will also receive their Chromebooks, textbooks and workbooks during that time. We will also ensure that they can log onto their email, iReady, SeeSaw,Google Classroom accounts. Some of you also ordered supply kits through the PTO which we also have and will give to them during those appointments.
Please click here to schedule two (1 for K) appointments for your child.
If you have questions, please contact myself or Mrs. McGinnis. I know this is a stressful time for all of us. Completing the task of scheduling the appointments ASAP will help us get off to a smooth start.

Teachers will be contacting remote learners during the first week of school. Work will start to be posted on Friday, Sept. 4, but iReady work can be started as soon as a student has completed a diagnostic in that area (math or reading).
