Health & Safety Precautions
All students will wear masks on the school bus and will sit in assigned seats only.
Students will wait to exit the buses upon arrival at school until released by each driver.
Students will report directly to classrooms and not to lockers or breakfast. They will be released by teachers to control hallway traffic.
MES students and staff will wear masks while they are inside the building and outside of the building when they are not 6 feet apart. Mask breaks will be given.
Students and teachers will maintain 6 feet of distance whenever and wherever possible.
Students will have personal dividers at their desks or group dividers at larger tables.
Desks and seats are distanced as far apart as possible. Extra furniture has been removed from all classrooms.
Fabric items that cannot be easily disinfected have been removed from classrooms.
Students will only leave their homeroom classrooms for specials, recess, lunch and restroom use. Teachers in grades 3-6 will switch to classrooms rather than students.
At a minimum, students will be washing their hands with soap and water upon arriving at school, before leaving for specials, after specials, after restroom use, before eating, after eating, before recess, after recess, and before leaving the building in the afternoon.
Hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, and disinfectant are available in each classroom.
The building and classrooms will be sprayed at night using a bleach atomizer.
Students will eat by grade level and will be grouped with their homeroom classrooms when seating is assigned in the cafeteria. Usable seats are marked with a red arrow.
Playgrounds will be sectioned by homeroom with rotations daily to other areas. Each section will have a mesh bag of equipment to play with that will be cleaned between groups.
Physical Education classes will be held outside whenever possible. Other classes are encouraged to learn outside as well.
Students will wait in classrooms for buses to be called in the afternoon to avoid hallway traffic.
We are asking that parents minimize visits to the school. If you must enter, you will only be admitted to the office at this time. No parents will be admitted to hallways and classrooms, even on the first day of school.
How to decide whether to send a child to school--Children that arrive ill or become ill at school this year will have to be isolated in our new/required Care Room until the nurse can assess and parents can pick up the child. Please keep these guidelines in hand when making a decision about sending a child this year.
