Fine Needle Aspiration

Specimen: 

1. Wet Smear, immerse immediately while still wet into fresh 95% alcohol for 30 minutes /  Dry Smear / FNA Aspirate (minimum two slides)

2. Dry Smear, air dried (minimum two slides)

Schedule: 

By appointment only (Tuesday - Thursday Only)

LTAT:

 Urgent, 7 Working days

Routine: 21 Working days

Gynaecological PAP Smear

Specimen: 

1. Conventional Method: Cervical smear - Minimum one slide, immerse immediately while still wet into fresh 95% alcohol for 30 minutes 

2.Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) - LBC Vial + One Conventional Slide

Schedule: 

Office hours

LTAT:

 Negative: 7 - 14  Working days

Positive: 30 Working Days (Slide will be referred to HQE for second opinion)

Special Form:

PS 1/98 (Pindaan 2007)

Notes:

1.Please refer to this guide for specimen collection procedure.

2. Sample must be sent to the lab within 12 hours. If delay anticipated, please refrigerate sample at 4°C

3. No urgent request for PAP smear screening. Biopsy is advised if clinically indicated.

Seminal Fluid Analysis

Specimen / Volume: Fresh Specimen, as per collection

Container: Sterile screw capped bottle

Schedule: By appointment only (Mon – Fri , 8 – 11 am)

LTAT: 3 Working days

Body Fluids Cytology (Pleural Fluid, Pericardial Fluid, Peritoneal Fluid, Synovial Fluid, Cyst Fluid)

Specimen / Volume: Fresh sample, as per collection (minimum 20 mL)

Container: Sterile screw capped bottle

Schedule: Office hours

TAT: 7 Working days (urgent) & 21 Working days (routine)

Note: Sample will be referred to HQE for examination

Bronchial Brushing Cytology

Specimen / Volume: Thin wet smear (minimum two slides)

Container: Prepared on frosted end slide. Immerse smear immediately while still wet into fresh 95% alcohol for 30 minutes

Schedule: Office hours

TAT: 7 Working days (urgent) & 21 Working days (routine)

Note: Sample will be referred to HQE for examination

CSF Cytology

Specimen / Volume: Fresh sample, as per collection

Container: Sterile Bijouu Bottle

Schedule: Office hours

TAT: 7 Working days (urgent) & 21 Working days (routine)

Note:

1.Sample must be sent immediately to the lab. If delay anticipated, please refrigerate sample at 4°C

2.Sample will be referred to HQE for examination

Sputum Cytology

Specimen / Volume: Fresh sample, as per collection

Container: Wide mouth sterile screw capped bottle

Schedule: Office hours

TAT: 7 Working days (urgent) & 21 Working days (routine)

Note:

1.Avoid sending saliva. Patient must be explained on how to produce sputum 

2.Sample will be referred to HQE for examination

Urine Cytology

Specimen / Volume: Fresh sample, 10 mL

Container: Sterile screw capped bottle

Schedule: Office hours

TAT: 7 Working days (urgent) & 21 Working days (routine)
