Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes each evening.
We will be incorporating some Flipped Learning this year. This will require students to complete a task, watch a video, etc., BEFORE they attend class the next day. Failure to complete the homework will put them at a disadvantage when they come to class the next day.
UNFINISHED CLASSWORK: Students who do not finish class work in class are expected to complete it for homework, unless otherwise stated.
DEADLINES: Some of the M3 assignments will require time and effort outside of class. Check-ins will be scheduled as appropriate - these are for the student's benefit. Be sure to submit all assignments and parts of assignments on time.
GRADE EXPECTATIONS: Due to how complicated some of the ELA scales are, it is difficult to earn anything higher than a 2.5 during the first term - don't let this get you down! It will take time to meet all of the expectations for M3 ELA.
APPLY FEEDBACK TO IMPROVE SCORE: A grade on written assignments is never final - be sure to take time to review your feedback and look to re-write your work to resubmit for a higher grade.
WORK AHEAD: The "big" assignments are listed on each unit page. Students can choose to begin attempting assignments before we start them in class!
EXTRA CREDIT: "Extra Credit" is a thing! These must be student-initiated and the student needs to identify which ELA scale they are looking to improve their score in. It is a good idea to confer with the teacher BEFORE starting extra credit work, though.
We will be incorporating technology in the classroom regularly and, as such, students should bring a device (preferably laptop or tablet) to class each day.
Students are expected to only use these devices for class purposes and as directed by the teacher. Failure to meet the expectations will result in the device being confiscated AND the student being unable to use technology (i.e. handwriting essays, etc.) until the end of term, as well as any other appropriate disciplinary measures.
