Harnessing STP for Effective Teaching and Learning of Students who require Educational Support
With the Singapore Teaching Practice (STP), our education fraternity now has a common reference point to examine our own professional practice and think deeply about it. Facilitated by Educational Support Senior and Lead Teachers, this workshop aims to provide participants insights into harnessing STP and adapting the Teaching Areas and Teaching Actions to motivate and engage low progress learners in their schools and classes. Through discussions, participants will explore, reflect, and share ways to translate the repertoire of research-informed pedagogical practices into useful classroom strategies to cater to the learning needs of all students.

Harnessing Brain-based Principles to Support Learning
How can teachers combine our knowledge and experience with insights from neuroscience and psychology? This workshop explores brain research in four main areas: attention, emotion, working memory and long-term memory. By approaching teaching from each of these perspectives, participants gain experience in translating abstract science into specific and useful classroom strategies. In particular, participants can expect to learn about capturing and maintaining student attention and focus, turning stress into positive challenges to foster a positive emotional climate, optimizing working memory, and enhancing long-term memory formation.

Making it Work with Positive Teacher Language
Teachers need to create a safe and nurturing environment, and build strong relationships with students, as these are critical enablers to ensure that students discover the joy of learning in school. One way to do this is through the use of Positive Teacher Language (PTL). PTL focuses on the words teachers use when talking to students, the intention behind the words used, how words are being delivered, and how teacher language shapes student perception. In this workshop, participants will understand why our words matter and uncover the objectives and guidelines of PTL Teachers will be equipped with practical strategies to implement PTL effectively in our daily interactions with students.
