The School Rally
The School Rally is shared by all the Lasallian schools in Singapore. For our school's version, the original phrase "our college" in stanza 1 verse 1 is replaced by "Saint Stephen's", and similarly in the Chorus, our institution's name takes the place in the verse "Sons of Saint Stephen's".
SCHOOL RALLY - Alma Mater's Call
Music based on the Irish song O'Donnell Abu (1567)
Lyrics by Brother Marcian James Cullen (1869-1938)
All through Saint Stephen's, a voice is resounding,
Promptly respond to your duty's sweet call,
Harken you all for the trumpet is sounding,
Your mater's proclaiming her watchword to all.
Forward her children dear,
Ever with hearts sincere,
Render with joy to your mater her due.
All that is vile reject,
Heaven will e'er protect
Sons of Saint Stephen's
Valiant and true.
Onward and upward in life's earnest battle,
Joyously bearing the brunt of the fight,
Nobly forgiving for all that may pain you,
And bravely defending the cause of the right.
Forward her children dear,
Ever with hearts sincere,
Render with joy to your mater her due.
All that is vile reject,
Heaven will e'er protect
Sons of Saint Stephen's
Valiant and true.
Original school song performed by Mr Darren Sandosham & Mr Jason De Hamel
Written by Harry Sociago (School Assistant)
We are the boys of Saint Stephen’s so keen
In blue and white, the same we’ve always been
We work we pray and we sing together to emulate Saint Stephen our martyr
To God and country loyal and true
The green white and red flag and school rules too
In sports and work all the more we put Saint Stephen’s to the fore
Saint Stephen’s our school so dear
You taught us all and all we adhere
To you we belong and always will
Our days with joy you’ve always filled
St Stephen’s School had no school motto since its beginning in 1957. It had only our school’s name.
In 1976, the then principal, Mr T.O. Aeria, with the help of Rev. L. Egan, redesigned and incorporated the motto in Latin, “Credere Et Servire” on our badge. Translated, it means “To Believe And To Serve”. Coloured bands were also added and it was first featured in our CBS annual.
During the 3rd quarter of 2003, a proposal was put forth to give the badge a new look. This change eventually took effect from January of 2004.
