Mrs. Gloria Raquiza taught from 1967 – 2004. She loved teaching the boys in Primary 1. During that time the boys were not as bold, daring or independent as the boys of today. It was fun teaching and at the same time disciplining them. She remembers a boy who would not enter the class without seeing his grandmother. So she had permission to allow his grandmother to sit outside the classroom & by mid-year she had crocheted a shawl for her while sitting outside the class.
She has many fond memories. She enjoyed being a cadet scout leader. At that time SSS had 5 cadet scout troops. There was fierce competition among the troops. The terrain at that time was conducive for many scout activities.
Teachers were ever ready to do their part on Children's Day, End of the year concert & Orientation Day. There was a lot of camaraderie among the teachers. They put up dance, sketches & songs on stage for their pupils.
During her years as English HOD, together with her team of teachers, they implemented many activities – Poetry recitation, story telling, debates & cross talk competitions among the different levels.
A few years ago, some of her students turned 55 years old. They had a party at St. Patrick's School & invited some of their old teachers. It was great to be remembered by them.
She also remembers the times when teachers & students would don their different ethnic costumes to celebrate the various ethnic festivities.
One special memory of hers was the celebration of masses in school, to remind the teachers & students of our Christian identity as a CBS school.
