I love geography because of the intricacies of the discipline and the complexity of the subject. It explores a whole range of ideas and information, yet being able to be neatly compartmentalised into various key concepts. I find that Geography is an artistic science, but yet a scientific art. This social science truly mesmerises me as I explore the world from deep underground to way up in the atmosphere. There's just so much to learn!
To my dearest students, do not fear the mountain of information that Geography has to offer us. Each piece is like a small jig-saw puzzle and as we learn together, the picture will slowly unfold itself and become clearer and clearer. Focus on what we have learnt and understood. Keep a lookout for good examples that demonstrates the concepts. Enjoy the true beauty that's happening around us, every single second.
Geography is out there waiting for us
To discover its presence in our everyday lives
Go on, try on a Geographer’s hat!
Hold million years of Earth’s history ingrained in a rock,
Encounter nature’s glory atop a mountain only to
Be dwarfed into realising humans are a tiny speck.
Love globalisation for its gift of $ and convenience,
But lament how consumerism might eventually drown the bear.
Breathe in petrichor, and reflect on water’s journey -
Life-giving but also life-threatening.
Geography helps us to make sense of the world,
And that’s important because we live in it.

I believe that Geography is not just a subject but a lens through which we understand and explore the world—from natural landscapes to urban spaces. I hope students can look beyond the classroom and uncover the geographical processes that shape our environment. Every place has a story, and Geography allows us to read and understand these stories in meaningful ways. Do look out of a window wherever you are, you will see ‘Geography out of every window’—because the world is the greatest classroom.
Geography is a subject that provides us with a different lens to view the world. I take great pleasure in exposing you the different lenses that are available to see the world. Each pair enables us to experience the world in new and fascinating ways. I love that we get to understand the world we live in and have a chance to offer this new perspective with others. Never underestimate the power of perspective that you bring to the table as a Geographer.

If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.
Geography is a great excuse to go traveling to see and appreciate the sights around you. Good mix of science and arts, middle of the road option between technical and airy fairy concepts and content.
Students should find it is highly relevant and relatable to our lives, especially in the current context. In fact, it is likely to become more relevant and relatable with time due to environmental challenges only becoming more stark.

Geography is intriguing for me because it is broad in its perspective and is interested in the patterns of interconnections and multiple causal relationships between people and the environment. It kindles the adventurous spirit and gives me a sense of who and where I am as part of the natural environment. So I like patterns and making sense of them while also reveling in the possibilities of bigger and bigger patterns at larger scales which I am not aware of.
I hope students will develop lifelong geographical curiosity and approach life with the intellectual humility that a broad, geographical perspective inevitably gives them. I hope they become more acutely aware of the natural world around them and develop an appreciation of its value and vulnerability to human action.
