At Qifa, Science is more than facts and experiments. It is about curiosity, inquiry and making sense of the world. Our Science learning experiences are thoughtfully designed to ignite the joy of discovery, build strong scientific foundations and empower pupils to think critically about the world and their place in it.
We believe every pupil should develop a strong scientific foundation through hands-on and minds-on learning. Through purposeful play, observations and investigations, pupils ask questions, make sense of what they see and apply scientific ideas to everyday situations with confidence and joy.
Science learning is brought to life through meaningful and developmentally appropriate experiences across the levels.
Through the rearing of mealworms, pupils observe life cycles, growth and change firsthand, nurturing responsibility, curiosity and appreciation for living things.
Using shadow puppets, pupils explore how light travels and how shadows are formed. Through hands-on experimentation and guided inquiry, they deepen understanding while communicating their observations with confidence.
Pupils engage in hydroponics learning experiences, exploring plant science, sustainability and food systems. Linked to Values in Action, pupils understand how Science can improve lives and contribute to a better world.
Pupils visit Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, investigating adaptations and ecosystems in an authentic environment, strengthening their appreciation of Singaporeβs biodiversity and the relevance of Science in daily life.
Pupils take part in exciting STEM Playground activities organised by Science Centre Singapore in collaboration with Dyson. These hands-on challenges inspire curiosity, encourage creative problem-solving and help pupils see how Science, Technology and Design come together in meaningful ways β with whole-school exposure and deeper investigative opportunities for Upper Primary pupils.
Primary 6 pupils participate in an immersive STEM Day, designed in collaboration with the EdTech and Mathematics Departments. Through real-world challenges, pupils apply Science, Technology, Mathematics and design thinking to create meaningful solutions.
A key highlight is when Primary 6 pupils share their learning with younger levels, taking on leadership roles as presenters and facilitators. This builds communication, confidence and a collaborative STEM culture across the school.
Beyond the classroom, pupils learn in our vibrant Qifa STEM Space, a specially designed outdoor learning environment featuring:
a solar-powered Sun Mill to explore renewable energy and energy conversion
solar-powered hydroponics to understand plant science, sustainability and green technology
This authentic space helps pupils experience Science in action and see how STEM contributes to a sustainable future.
Pupils with strong interest and aptitude in Science are given meaningful opportunities to stretch their thinking.
E2K Science Programme: Selected P4 and P5 pupils engage in challenging investigations and collaborative problem-solving to develop independence, resilience and scientific reasoning.
Science Competitions: Pupils take part in selected platforms to apply their learning beyond the classroom and experience higher-level scientific thinking.
Across all levels, pupils learn to observe, predict, investigate and communicate their findings, developing strong inquiry skills and confident thinking. Through outdoor learning and VIA experiences, they also grow as responsible, caring and environmentally conscious contributors to society.
Through these rich learning experiences, the Science Department is committed to nurturing scientifically literate, curious and confident pupils β ready to use Science to understand their world and make meaningful, informed decisions.
